Developer knocks viewing platform off Simpson’s Blackfriars tower scheme

Ian Simpson’s 52-storey One Blackfriars skyscraper project in London could lose its viewing platform as part of plans by its new owners

Under the reworked designs, the £500 million tower scheme – formerly known as Beetham Tower – would see its mix of uses change with the originally proposed occupant, a luxury hotel, relocated to a low rise building and the main tower filled instead with 280 luxury apartments.

The amendments are pursued by the building’s new owners, St George, and will be revealed at a public exhibition later this month, reported London SE1.

The developer – part of Berkeley Group – recently purchased the project which has lain dormant since going into administration in 2010.
