  • Comment

The Department of Environment Transport and the Regions last week announced it is to pump more than £1 billion into 163 regeneration schemes in England via the Single Regeneration Budget.

London's £320 million package - which could be doubled with private-sector support, includes the Elephant and Castle facelift which receives £20 million.

The extra cash was announced along with new assisted areas. The top four areas qualifying for most assistance are Cornwall, Merseyside, South Yorkshire and West Wales and the Valleys.
