The Met Office is to decide today who will design its new weather centre in Exeter. The decision, which was due later this month, has been brought forward due to the announcement of the general election. The funds for the project, being fought out by Alsop Architects and Broadway Malyan, are being provided by the Treasury and a formal application has to be made before Parliament dissolves. The decision will be taken by the Met Office's board of directors, to be ratified by the chief executive. Last month CABE came out strongly in favour of Alsop's proposal (AJ14.4.01).
