Shown here is Martino Gamper's Sit Together, one of the 12 finalists in this year's Oxo Peugeot Design Awards.

Inspired by Gerrit Rietveld's Zig Zag chair, it is made from iroko wood panels cut to size and mitred together. From the elegant to the bizarre, this year's awards attracted more than 350 entries from all over the UK. Objects were judged under five categories - applied metal design; ceramics/ glass/polymers; furniture; lighting; and textiles.

The overall winner will be given £16,000 at an awards evening at Oxo Tower Wharf, London, on 3 September. Other interesting entries include Office in a Bucket, an inflatable modular pod structure by Nick Crosbie and the thin sheet metal Orikani Aero Shelf by Norman Richards. The objects will be shown at a free exhibition at Oxo Tower Wharf from 4 September to 5 October 2003.
