Darling Associates has been brought into to take forward Make’s long-stalled, joined towers scheme in London’s Docklands
The practice has been appointed by build-to-rent specialist Essential Living which has recently snapped up the site in Trafalgar Way.
Ken Shuttleworth’s practice Make began work on the 35,000m² scheme, which has planning consent, back in 2007. The proposed residential development next to Poplar Dock in Canary Wharf features two towers of 29 and 35 storeys.
Elliptical in plan, the skyscrapers originally featured a ‘multi-level’ link bridge and was to house around 400 homes.
The plot, currently occupied by a McDonalds drive-through, was bought from Irish company Trafalgar Way Ltd.
Explaining the practice’s approach to the project, Chris Darling of Darling Associates said: ‘We will be making some enhancements but remaining true to the spirit of the Make design. It is hoped to be on site later this year.’
