Refurbishment work by Burrell Foley Fischer is due to start on London's Almeida Theatre in March.

The existing structure has been retained as far as possible so that, as project architect Mark Foley says, the scheme is able to retain the basic look of the theatre while adding a range of 'simple elemental spaces'. The gable wall of the existing theatre will be expressed as an internal surface and the cafe and bar will allow overspill onto the pavement.Works comprise the rebuild of the front of house, including new cafe bar, scene dock, box office and circulation spaces, as well as upgrading the ventilation provision, improved seating and dressing rooms.
