Cruz appointed Bartlett director

The Bartlett School of Architecture has appointed Marcos Cruz, formerly of the University of Westminster, as its new director

The incumbent Iain Borden has been given the newly created role of vice-dean for communications, in what appears to be a sideways move.

One of Cruz’s colleagues at Westminster said the move was ‘a wry one’ as Cruz, who was a senior lecturer at Westminster as well as a lecturer at the Bartlett, will now work solely at University College London.

Speaking to the AJ Cruz said: ‘The transition will be a gradual one, I will still be going to Westminster to finish work there.’

Professor Alan Penn, who took over the deanship of the Bartlett in September of this year, says: ‘I am very pleased that Marcos Cruz is taking over to direct the Bartlett School of Architecture. He brings enthusiasm and a wealth of practice-based experience to the job.’

Meanwhile, David Cobb has joined the Bartlett as its new director of business development.

All new appointments are effective from 1 January 2010.
