cool space

The future of naturally cooled buildings will be the subject of an AJ one-day conference, 'Cool Space', at the RIBA on 14 February 2001. Speakers will include Rab Bennetts, Bill Taylor of Michael Hopkins & Partners, Richard Young of Sheppard Robson, Guy Battle of Battle McCarthy, Chris Twinn of Arup, and Chris Strickland of developer Greycoat.

The conference, for architects, engineers, clients and occupiers, will be chaired by Tim Battle of Rybka Battle. In addition to discussion of broad design issues, there will be a session examining the latest EU legislation and Part L regulations, and their implications for air-conditioning systems and coolants.

Other sessions will include a review of low-energy design over the past two decades at Bennetts Associates; how sustainability has been addressed as an incremental process by the Hopkins office; a European perspective with a review of the Stockholm Environmental Park; developments in the US and Australia by services engineers Patrick Bellew and Guy Battle; and a new approach to holistic modelling of sustainable design by Bob Dalziel of Geoffrey Reid and Paul Fletcher of Teamwork 2000.

Booking details will appear in the AJ shortly. To make a preliminary booking call Martin Davies at Emap Construct on 020 7505 6613.
