Construction starts on Alsop's cricket pavilion

Construction has started on Will Alsop’s new cricket pavilion at Headingley Carnegie in Leeds this week

The 4,000m² Carnegie Pavilion will combined a teaching facility for Leeds Metropolitan University with media and hospitality space.

The scheme is scheduled for completion in May 2010, after going on hold for a brief period following stage E.

The pavilion’s 16-month construction period is now underway. Planning approval for the project was received in September last year.

The pavilion features five floors, and is connected to the green spaces around the building. Further plans include an upgrade of player facilities, such as changing and treatment rooms, and replacement spectator seating, new executive boxes and associated facilities.

It is located at the home of Yorkshire Country Cricket Club.

  • I'm reminded of the fairy tale about the Emperor's New Clothes. I hope no-one is fooling a bunch of credulous Yorkshiremen here.

Still Headingley is a mess already. There used to be a lovely, Modern pavillion in the corner of the two fields of play. This was corrupted years ago when it had a pitched roof slapped on it thoughtlessly.

When they see exemplary work at Lord's what do these people see, is it nothing more than the novelty?
