BARN CONVERSION Open competition to select an innovative design solution for a Grade II-listed barn in the village of Wycoller, near Colne, Lancashire. The redevelopment must provide a secure, dry, temperature-controlled environment in part of the barn to serve as an information centre, leaving the remainder of it accessible when the centre is unstaffed. Competition is open to registered architects. Submission deadline 5 January 2001.

CONSOLIDATING COLLEGE Invited competition for the development of a modern, flexible space enabling the consolidation of Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London into a single site. The London Institute seeks an overall design to provide new and refurbished buildings.

Deadline for expressions of interest is 20 November 2000.

HOLISTIC HOTELS Ideas competition for an opportunity to influence thinking on a ubiquitous, commercial building type. The competition will address sustainable development issues raised by both new build and refurbishment on a real urban site near Cardiff. Submission deadline 27 February 2001.

EUROPAN URBAN IDEAS Europan is a biennial international design competition with the goal of helping young architects develop and promote their ideas in Europe and further afield. The theme for Europan is 'In between cities, architectural dynamics and new urbanity'.

Architects can submit designs for sites in 20 different countries, with UK sites in Hackney, Peckham and Manchester. The submission deadline is 5 March 2001.
