EUROPAN 7: SUBURBAN CHALLENGE, URBAN INTENSITY AND HOUSING DIVERSITY All towns are faced with urban sprawl and fragmentation. The increasing use of the car, the growing number of out-of-town shopping centres and the extension of business parks are leading to a 'dispersed town' urban model. There is a new will to reorganise areas by reviving the traditional planning ethos of European towns, and associating this with the challenges of urban sustainability. Europan 7 proposes to tackle this at the interface between urban planning and architecture. Visit www. europan-europe. com. The deadline is 2 May.
