Restoring Greenwich’s iconic Painted Hall, a new teaching centre for the University of Winchester and regenerating Soar Island in Leicester. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

The Greenwich Foundation for the Old Royal Naval College is on the hunt for an architect to overhaul its iconic Painted Hall. The £4 million project will restore the Christopher Wren and Nicholas Hawksmoor-designed building and create a new café and entrance in the undercroft [Deadline for requests to participate 12noon on 3 March]

The University of Winchester is on the lookout for an architect for a new £21 million teaching centre. Planned to complete in 2017, the 7,500m² building will feature a library, lecture theatres, classrooms, meeting room, café and gallery [Deadline for requests to participate 5pm on 11 February]

The RIBA has launched an ideas competition to regenerate Soar Island in Leicester. Backed by Leicester City Council, the contest seeks proposals to revitalise the islet in the middle of the River Soar which currently features a viewing platform and cement works [Deadline for applications 2pm on 17 March]
