A national clock making centre, new market stalls in east London and a horse theme park and race course in South Korea. The editor’s pick of this week’s leading competitions

The British Horological Institute (BHI) is seeking a conservation architect for a new £4.9 million training centre for clock-makers near Newark-on-Trent in Nottinghamshire. Planned to complete in 2018, the project will transform a stable block and glasshouse at BHI’s Grade II*-listed Upton Hall headquarters (pictured) into a new National Centre for Horology. [Deadline for requests to participate 5 January]

RIBA’s London Region has announced a design competition for a £25,000 series of market stalls at Chrisp Street Market in Poplar. The winning team will construct three prototype stalls for the iconic Frederick Gibberd-designed East End market which opened in 1951 as part of the Festival of Britain. [Deadline for submissions 7 December]

The Korea Racing Authority has launched an open international competition for a £145 million horse theme park and racecourse in Yeongcheon, South Korea. The project aims to create a ‘one-of-a-kind’ attraction where visitors can relax in the company of horses and enjoy local history and culture. [Deadline for registration 23 December]
