Restoring Glasgow’s Willow Tearooms, a new £1bn terminal at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and overhauling the Gutenberg Museum. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

The RIAS has launched a competition for the £4 million overhaul of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s Willow Tearooms in Glasgow (pictured). Planned to complete in time for Mackintosh’s 150th birthday in 2018, the project will restore the Grade A-listed 1903 café and create a new visitor centre next door. Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport has launched an international competition for a new £1 billion terminal. Planned to host 45 million passengers-a-year, the new 640,000m² Terminal 3 building will be connected to the airport’s existing Terminal 2 facility. Judges include Bartlett School of Architecture director Marcos Cruz. [Deadline for submissions 21 August]

The city of Mainz has launched a design contest for the 8,500m2 overhaul and extension of its iconic Gutenberg Museum. The project will reorganize the museum’s exhibition and function spaces, upgrade its services, renovate the façades and deliver a new extension inside an existing courtyard. [Deadline for requests to participate 7 September]
