The Nordic Built Cities Challenge, restoring Kirkleatham’s walled garden and two new subway stations in Moscow. The editor’s pick of this week’s leading competitions

The Nordic Built Cities Challenge has announced six competitions for sites across Scandinavia. Projects include a green transport hub at Trygve Lies square in Oslo, a 22-hectare regeneration in Espoo, Finland and upgrading Iceland’s 15,000m² Karsnes Harbour. Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has launched a design competition for a ‘landmark attraction’ inside a Grade II-listed walled garden in Kirkleatham. Planned to complete in 2016, the project will deliver a new catering academy and restore a 3.5 hectare kitchen garden. [Deadline for expressions of interest 9 November]

Russian consultancy Strelka KB has opened an international competition for two new subway stations in northwest Moscow. ‘Cutting-edge and ambitious’ designs are sought for the interiors of Nizhniye Mnevniki and Terekhovo stations which are part of a new 150-kilometre metro line encircling the Russian capital.
