A ‘new Scotland Yard’, Political Sciences faculty building at LSE and the remodelling of the Van Alen Institute in New York. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

RIBA has launched a competition to design a new home for London Metropolitan Police. Five shortlisted teams will receive a £6,000 stipend to develop designs to transform the Curtis Green building on Victoria Embankment into the new ‘Scotland Yard’. The Met will relocate from its 1960s building in 2015 [Expressions of interest due by 27 June]

New York’s Van Alen Institute has opened a contest to redesign its ground and lower floors into a venue and public space. Three shortlisted teams will receive a stipend to develop proposals for the 315m² footprint building. The contest is only open to designers who qualified within the past 10 years [Responses and portfolios are due 13 June]

RIBA has launched a contest to design a new social sciences faculty for the London School of Economics and Political Sciences. The centre, in Aldwych, is expected to be a flexible space for creative research and social learning. Up to six shortlisted practices will receive a £10,000 honorarium each [Expressions of interest due by 2pm on 14 June]
