Regenerating the Vienna Museum, a £30 million research centre in Darlington and public realm for Toronto’s new rail line. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

The City of Vienna has announced a design competition for a £42 million overhaul of its municipal museum. Planned to complete in 2020, the project will restore the listed 7,000m² museum – which is located in the prestigious Karlsplatz district of the Austrian capital – and create a new 5,000m² extension [Deadline for applications has yet to be confirmed]

Teesside University is on the hunt for an architect for a new £30 million National Horizons Centre (NHC) in Darlington. The 4,200m² facility will focus on the design and production of new technologies and management skills for the emerging biologics, biotechnology, subsea engineering and digital industries [Deadline for requests to participate 30 March]

Toronto’s transport authority Metrolinx has launched an international competition for a series of pedestrian-friendly public realm projects on its new Sheppard East Light Rail Transit line.
