Two Shoreditch towers, the European Union’s council buildings, and a rebuild in Ireland. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

Hackney Council is seeking architects to design two housing towers of 14 and 20 storeys in the Colville Estate in Hoxton, London. The £25 million project is hoping for schemes that show ‘architectural flair and innovation’. [Completed PQQs should be returned by 14 May]

The European Union is looking for architects to monitor the extension, restoration and renovation of its council buildings and surrounding area in Brussels. Part of a four-year framework, the role includes ad hoc work such as preliminary studies and planning applications. [Expressions of interest to be received 7 May]

Architectural charity BuildingTrust has launched an open ideas contest to design homes costing less than £20,000 for cities with populations of more than 100,000. [Registration must be completed by 30 June]

Ireland’s Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology is looking for a design team to partially demolish, renovate and rebuild its student services building in a four-year contract with a value of £57,000. [Requests to participate must be received 15 May]
