The RIBA London Forgotten Spaces competition, renovate and redevelop Oxford’s Story Museum, and a contest to redesign the Pushkinsky Cinema Hall in Moscow; the editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

Back for its second year, RIBA London with developer and investor Qatari Diar and Ordnance Survey, have launched a new Forgotten Spaces ideas competition for 2011. This year’s competition offers architects an invitation to explore the potential of localism – or rather a risk free basis for trying it out and gauging potential – while encouraging local engagement and active participation in the development of our urban realm. RIBA Yorkshire has also launched a Forgotten Spaces for new ideas for underused sites in Sheffield. The full Forgotten Spaces 2011 competition brief will be available from the RIBA websites from 17 February 2011. Competition registration deadlines are 30 March, with the competitions closing for entries on 12 May.

Oxford’s Story Museum wishes to appoint an architect-led design team on a lead consultant basis to take forward proposals to deliver a design and masterplan for the development of existing buildings as well as proposals for developing and delivering the brief for new exhibition and gallery spaces. The Museum seeks a design team with previous experience in cultural projects. The deadline for requesting documents is 11 March.

DuPont, in cooperation with Union of Russian Architects, Royal Institute of British Architects, YEM Building Information Center, Architizer.com and Karo Film has announced an open ideas international competition to redesign the façade of the existing Pushkinsky Cinema Hall in Moscow. Participants must use at least one DuPont material from an established list for a first prize of €10,000. The deadline for project submission is 15 May.
