Restoring St Martin’s Church in Glasgow, 13 ‘architectural gems’ in China and station design for Doha’s new metro. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

The Glasgow Building Preservation Trust is seeking an architect to transform Gillespie, Kidd and Coia’s deconsecrated St Martin’s Church into a mountain bike activity centre. The £4.1 million project will restore the Category B-listed building (pictured) in Castlemilk which closed four years ago and is currently on Scotland’s ‘buildings at risk’ register [Deadline for requests to participate 5 February]

Chinese property developer Hua Yan Group has launched an international design competition – judged by Ken Yeang –for 13 ‘architectural gems’ at the heart of a new town near Mount Lu. Winners will receive building commissions and around £100,000 each [Deadline for submissions 10 April]

Qatar Rail is on the hunt for architectural subcontractors to deliver 35 planned new metro stations in the country’s capital city – Doha. UNStudio has completed early concept designs for the stations which will feature vaulted roofs inspired by traditional nomadic tents [Deadline for the submissions 25 January]
