An innovative commission in Ards Forest Park, the Peabody Trust begins Major Projects Panel hunt and the 2014 Rome Prize in Architecture. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

The Irish Architecture Foundation has begun a competition to commission an ‘innovative’ installation in the Ards Forest Park in Co Donegal. Open to architects in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland a 24,000 euro budget will be awarded scheme best ‘enhancing public experience of the area’. Suggested installation functions include a shelter, viewpoint, bathing hut, tree house and or play structure with other types welcomed. Shortlisted teams will be notified 7 March with the winning scheme due to be built in July 2014 as part of the annual Earagail Arts Festival. The deadline for submissions is set at 26 February with an accompanying entry fee of 50 euros.

The Peabody trust is now contracting architects to join its Major Projects Panel with a £130,000,000 budget and four year programme. Divided into ten individual lots, architects design services are called for in large scale new build schemes, masterplanning and refurbishment projects.The trust aims to deliver 1,000 new homes each year across London through the contract. Documents and PQQs are available for download up until 31 January with completed forms to be returned by 3 February through the allocated page.

The Rome Prize in Architecture is now accepting 2014 applications for the six month residency at the British School at Rome. Running from October 2014 to March, British architects hoping to complete a ‘creative and focused project’ in the city are welcome to apply for the 2014 award and position, a grant of £700 per month is included for travel. Completed application forms curriculum vitae are due by 7 February with the winner to be chosen based on the ‘applicants proposed creative output’.
