New ideas for Belfast’s Dundonald International Ice Bowl, Taiwan’s Taichung Gateway Park competition and futuristic bath tubs designs for Kaldewei; the editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

Castlereagh Borough Council in Belfast, Northern Ireland, is on the hunt for a design team to revamp the Dundonald International Ice Bowl. Currently the training base for the Belfast Giants ice hockey team, the stadium is in line for up to £30 million worth of investment, with the local authority hoping to secure ‘added value’ for the site though the introduction of new ‘complimentary activities’. A deadline for the competition has yet to be announced.

Taiwan’s $85 million Taichung Gateway Park competition has been re-launched with a revised stage one deadline of 30 June. The original deadline for the contest - which seeks park ideas for a 254-hectare area once home to Taichung Airport - was 25 February. Design teams selected for the competition’s second stage will be announced on 5 July.

Bathroom supplier Kaldewei has invited architects and professional designers to come up with ideas for a ‘futuristic’ bath tub using the company’s hallmark 3.5mm steel enamel material. With £5,000 worth of prize money up for grabs, participants are asked to design products which acknowledge contemporary bathing trends including the idea of the bath tub as a ‘haven of wellbeing’. The deadline for entries is 30 June and the winner will be announced on 23 September.
