A play space and roof garden for the Royal London Hospital, a new public park in South Tyneside and a skyscraper design competition; the editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions
The RIBA has launched a competition for the design of an indoor children’s play space and exterior roof garden at the HOK-designed Royal London Hospital (pictured), due to open in east London in 2012. The deadline for pre-qualification questionnaires is 15 September.
South Tyneside Metropolitan Borough Council is on the hunt for a landscape architect to design a new £1.5 million public park. The waterfront park, near the mouth of the river Tyne, is part of a masterplan for the regeneration of a 35ha Brownfield site development into five mixed-use neighbourhoods. Tenders must be received by 31 August.
The annual eVolo Skyscraper Competition has been opened to both students and architects. Entrants are encouraged ‘to question the use of traditional materials, technologies, and aesthetics’ within skyscraper construction and establish a unique way of looking at the relationship between skyscrapers and the city. First prize winners will be awarded US $5,000. Registration closes on 16 November and the deadline for entries is 11 January 2010.
