Manchester’s new £110m Factory venue, a cinema expansion for Galeri Caernarfon and redeveloping Chelmsford’s leisure centre. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

Manchester City Council (MCC) is seeking an architect for its new £110 million flexible art space named The Factory. Planned to complete in 2019, the 2,200-capacity venue – named after Factory Records – will be constructed on the former Granada Studios site within the city centre. Galeri Caernarfon is on the hunt for an architect for a new £4 million extension. Planned to complete in 2020, the project will extend the Richard Murphy Architects-designed arts centre and create two new cinemas, offices, catering facilities and box office support areas. Chelmsford City Council is on the hunt for an architect to redevelop its 1960s Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre. The £25 million project will create a new pool, training area, fitness suite and multi-storey car park on the prominent Victoria Road site. [Deadline for requests to participate 17 August]
