Cambridge’s new Cavendish Laboratory, regenerating the Oastler Centre in Bradford and Colombia’s history museum. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

The University of Cambridge is seeking an architect for a £150 million department of physics building. Planned to complete in 2020, the new ‘Cavendish Laboratory’ will be constructed on the university’s West Cambridge site. Up to six teams will be shortlisted. The City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council is on the hunt for an architect to overhaul the Oastler Centre. The project will reconfigure the shopping centre – formerly known as John Street Market – and create a new food court and outdoor covered market area. [Deadline for requests to participate 1 July]

Colombia’s National Centre for Historical Memory has launched an international competition for a new museum in Bogota. The proposed ‘National Museum of Memory’ will document Colombia’s on-going armed conflict which has killed an estimated 220,000 people since 1958. The winning team will receive around £173,000. [Deadline for registration 19 June]
