Two young practices are to work on key projects associated with the Millennium Dome in Greenwich.
Allford Hall Monaghan Morris is to join the list of architects working on the Dome interior after being commissioned with Studio Myerscough by the Design Council and the British Council. The aim is to design national and international exhibitions to promote British design excellence through the Millennium Products initiative. The first two shows will be at the Birmingham International Convention Centre and in Singapore, but afterwards the shows will tour and culminate in the exhibition of Millennium Products inside the Dome.
Timpson Manley Architecture and Urban Design with edaw, meanwhile, has won a competitive interview to carry out environmental improvements to the Meridian Estate, West Greenwich, in time for the Millennium celebrations.
The practices won the £3 million job on the waterfront ahead of five others: Eric Parry Architects with Latz and Partner; bdp; Haworth Tompkins with Camlin Lonsdale; and Cottrell and Vermeulen with Lynn Kinnear, who each receive an honorarium of £3000.
The 2.8ha estate lies between the Cutty Sark and Greenwich Reach and contains 385 dwellings, most of them dating back to when it opened in 1936.
