A competition for a £5.5 million project to renovate arches for a theatre under Glasgow Central Station has been launched.
The winner will work on ventilation, heating and damp-proofing for the six 9m-wide arches, as well as diverting the water that pours on to them from the train platform. A new entrance will also be part of the scheme. The 3220m2 space is currently occupied by the Arches Theatre. The Scottish Arts Council has granted £3.5 million of lottery money, and will also pay for the 2700m2 basement to be turned into storage areas and dressing rooms.
Murray Design Group has carried out detailed feasibility work and will be shortlisted. The competition deadline is 19 August 1998. Contact rias, tel: 0131 229 7545.
