Sheltered Housing for Harrow's Elderly Population

KR The project looked at sheltered housing for the elderly and dealt with the artificial manufacturing of memories. An unapologetically unromantic project that dealt with a subject often dismissed in architecture.

WA A refreshing project that addressed the social issues raised by an increase in the elderly population through establishing a planning code to support an elderly community.

EE The project is serious and without sentimentality. It bravely tackled the taboo subject of ageing.

Room to Grow

KR This project, sited on the Ferrier Housing Estate in East London, offered a sustainable alternative proposal to proposed demolition of the estate. The project's agenda aimed to empower the residents to enable them to be part of the decision-making process for the future of their estate. The Urban Food Growing Project operated on two scales, the urban and the domestic. Proposing a 'domestic nursery' where vegetables are grown within the home environment, the idea is to integrate growing into everyday life. This expanded into an enchanting social programme creating interaction between neighbours.

EE A very interesting process of reaching a feasible ritual of growing vegetables. The architecture became an organic process by programming a series of settings for the growing of plants. A collective space of territories increased in scale corresponding with the growth of the plants.

Billboard Apartment Paddington

WA The scheme, Billboard Apartments, presented an original idea which used the surface areas of apartments to house advertising hoardings. The development of the form maximised surface exposure. The project stemmed from an original analysis of advertising in Tokyo. The project displayed a gritty urban realism.

KR The original investigation into the horizontal architectural plane came out of extensive research into advertising. A contemporary cultural take on an Archigram project. I loved the cause-and-effect result of the ever-modulating sequence of light on people's homes as a result of apartment blocks operating as billboard hoardings.

Car crash test centre

KR Car crash test centre is an interesting development of the programme and a fascinating thought process.

WA Bull's 'wreck storage' building is a fantastic spectacle with lifting gantries displaying smashed cars. A very enjoyable and theatrical project that proposes a central car-crash test space and finally returns to reconsider the animated spectacle provided by the 'Storage wall' of previous crash- test wrecks.

Air Rights Hotel

LV A very poetic scheme which was formally intriguing.

KR A sophisticated formal project that pushed the tectonics of Modernism. The use of water as the front layer of the building started to set up a formal language between the boundaries of the site. Interesting investigations into light and reflection were exquisitely illustrated using a perspex model.

EE Demonstrated a rigorous adherence to a formal vocabulary.
