Collapsibles: A Design Album of Space-Saving Objects

REVIEW

Compactness and convenience are the key to Danish designer Per Mollerup's Collapsibles: A Design Album of Space-Saving Objects (Thames & Hudson,232pp, £16.95) - a catholic visual compilation of things that fold, nest, or otherwise 'collapse' to make the most of limited space.

Umbrellas, tents, and Swiss army knives have been around for years, but roll-up rubber keyboards are more recent. Eduard Bohtlink's caravan (pictured) folds out to triple its living area, which can then be subdivided. Designs by Arne Jacobsen and Alvar Aalto are also included.
