Cladding squares up to city centre role

  • Comment

To ensure that the Central Liverpool Travelodge Hotel stands out from the retail centre below it, architect Shed KM devised it as a series of rectilinear shapes, with blue-glazed Fireborn clay cladding blocks in a stack bond from Ibstock Bricks forming an eye-catching entrance.

The perforated terracotta blocks range in size from 215 x 215 x 102mm to 327 x 215 x 102mm, with a vivid palette of colours. The low weight allows easy on-site handling, with further savings coming from using less mortar.
