The Corporation of London has stepped up its battle to get the £3 billion Crossrail project built, by releasing an independent report backing its version of the scheme.

The corporation claims that an extended scheme to Canary Wharf, proposed by engineering giant Arup, would 'cloud the issue over Crossrail'and 'create confusion and more delay'. A corporation spokesman said: 'If any extensions were added it could add 70 per cent to costs and could take another three years to build.'
