City 'must be bold'

news

Developer Stuart Lipton, chairman of the new Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (cabe), has warned that the City of London must promote the best architects - or it will be threatened as an office location. In a speech at the Guildhall last week he said that failure to make use of staid and dull areas in the City would leave the way open for areas such as Paddington and the South Bank to attract tenants. 'We need more towers of great quality, new landmarks, great spaces with buzz,' he said. The City Corporation, which owns a third of the property in its area, should be brave enough to break with tradition he said, though he feared it might not do so.
