The practice has completed the refurbishment and extension of an apartment in South Hampstead, North London. The new living area overlooking the garden comprises a sitting room with study mezzanine, semi open-plan kitchen and sheltered terrace. The 'glass box' extension has a support system of steel rods and tension wire, with sliding doors to the garden and brushed aluminium panels surrounding the terrace. A concrete bench runs the length of the main space, bridging the transition between existing and new elements, as does the timber flooring. There is a notion of layering, with increasing opacity as private rooms are reached. Consultant engineer was Alan Conisbee Associates and the main contractor was Harley Cronym. The contract sum was approximately £145,000.
