A major scheme by Chetwood Associates for the old Romford Brewery site has won a top retail award and a glowing endorsement from London minister Nick Raynsford. The project, masterplanned by Chetwood, includes 175 homes, a 14,790m 2Sainsbury's store with a multiplex above it, retail 'boxes'and fewer parking spaces than normal, courtesy of its in-town location. It picked up a top honour at the Retail Property Awards, and in a visit to Romford Raynsford said: 'I am hugely impressed.This is absolutely one of the best schemes I have seen for a long time and is entirely in line with the government's policies of urban renaissance and reviving our town centres.' The scheme occupies a 7.5ha site in the centre of Romford.
