Chelsea Barracks masterplan team revealed

A team of three architects has been chosen from 10 shortlisted firms to masterplan the new redevelopment at Chelsea Barracks

Dixon Jones, Squire & Partners and Kim Wilkie Associates are expected to be announced as the winners of the scheme today.

The team is set to work closely with local residents to draw up a masterplan, and further practices will be appointed to design buildings within the scheme.

Scheme backers Project Blue Guernsey – part of Qatari Diar – controversially dropped the previous architectural team, headed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners from the London development in June following the highly-publicised ‘intervention’ from Prince Charles.

  • I've always been confused by Dixon Jones' work, Squire will give you any flavour you want (clients like him because he lumps in density too) and who is Kim Wilkie ? So, that's it sorted, a huge pastiche for Chelsea Barracks, big shame on the scale of Paternoster and the National Gallery - will we ever learn ?

  • Qatari Diar have messed up big-time - the project will be dull, dull, dull and they should expect an endorsement from p. charles ... he called Squire's residential project in Knightsbridge " bloated cynicism".....mmm, charming.

  • "Squire will give you any flavour you want .. " - isn't that slightly the point of an architect's services, to respond to the client's (and other interested parties) wishes in a positive way, rather than erect some big monument to their own ego regardless of context?? What would you like to see here, some huge Zaha angular formation or a Future Systems blob? Personally I think the shortlisted team are a good choice for the site and I wish them luck.
