RIBA presidential candidate Paul Hyett took an unexpected guest to the Architects Registration Board swanky open house night last week: one time-scourge of ARB, Gabriele Bramante. Registrar Robin Vaughan thought her 'charming'. Further evidence of mended fences comes with news that the board is to open its council meetings to the fourth estate. Press coverage involves some risks, but ever since John Wilkes, British public life has made press scrutiny of public bodies a keystone of the constitution. The ARB has done the right thing.
