Chance de Silva Architects has completed this ‘wrap-around’ two-storey extension to a home in north London
Designed in collaboration with photographer and filmmaker Simon Head, the building is entirely clad in Douglas Fir. As well as a first floor artist’s studio, the scheme creates wheelchair access into the existing house.
According to practice founder, Stephen Chance said: ‘The design evolved in collaboration with Head - a photographer, filmmaker and typographer - and, like his work in relief on blocks of slate or stone, was conceived as carved from a single block, in this case of Douglas Fir.
‘The extension is glimpsed as a wooden house-in-the-trees from the Stroud Green Parkland walk.’
