This house in Pleasington, Blackburn, is approached past a channel of flowing water penetrating a garden wall. Two gentle steps enter the house through a Mondrian-style door into a double-height galleried hallway. The plan is orientated so that the living rooms and bedrooms benefit from a southerly aspect and a beautiful view. Large windows are canopied externally by a brise-soleil to reduce glare. Service rooms are located on the northern side. Internal access is via a stone spiral staircase which rises to a second-floor study bedroom. The finishes and details are simple and elegant: stone and timber floors, painted plaster walls, purpose-made fittings and glass balustrades. The cost was approximately £98,000.
