Ceramiche Refin has collaborated with graphic design agency Studio FM Milano to create FRAME, a unique, bold and graphic collection of ceramic tiles. FRAME re-interprets traditional decorative patterns in a contemporary way, creating a new aesthetic by fragmenting designs and altering scale.
Together with Refin’s innovative printing technology, the result is an exciting new surface with a strong decorative impact that can be used in both residential and commercial spaces.
FRAME consists of four collections - Majolica, Carpet, Geometric and Weave - each influenced by different design typologies, including traditional Majolica ceramics, Bauhaus patterns, Japanese Shibori textiles and ancient Portuguese Azulejos.
The evocative power of classic patterns is expressed in Majolica. The deconstruction of the traditional subject, the reinterpretation of colour, and the emphatic use of altered scale creates a dynamic and graphic effect.
The masterpieces of the textiles designer Anni Albers, the fabric patterns of Bauhaus, or the magical effects of a kaleidoscope inspire Carpet.
Cyanotype prints, auto-cad libraries and blueprints merge with patterns from azulejos to create a bridge between Mediterranean decorative traditions and the digital age.
Inspired by the Japanese Shibori or tie-dye technique, Weave is able to graphically set the vibration of the textile pattern in the ceramic matter.
With over 50 years of manufacturing experience, Ceramiche Refin is one of the world leaders in ceramic tile production. Based near Bologna, the tile capital of the world, Refin produces over 6 million m2 of tiles per year. With their new state-of-the-art factory and a Milan showroom, they boast a prodigious output in terms of both design and manufacturing.
