Cass Associates

Cass Associates has won planning permission for Southport's £800,000 Eco Centre parkand-ride facility on behalf of Sefton Council.

As well as providing a waiting area for buses, the building functions as a visitor information centre and an educational resource for local schools. The boat-like timber-clad form reflects the seaside location, while the tower houses a wind turbine and photovoltaic and solar panels. The zero-energy building will generate as much energy as it consumes. The project is currently awaiting funding, with a view to starting on site in the autumn, and a proposed completion date of summer 2002.

Cass Associates is also the landscape architect on the project.
