Products: AJ ENQUIRY No: 204

Question: how do you turn a fine old street in Scotland's capital city into a 'grand processional way'? Answer: with new lighting from Candela Light. So said landscape architect Paul Hogarth when speaking of Edinburgh's Holyrood Road, an important route to the Dynamic Earth Centre and the new Scottish Parliament buildings. Under a tight deadline, Birmingham- based Candela Light was called in by the Paul Hogarth Company to develop detailed designs into a practical and robust lighting element for manufacture and installation. As part of the new 'Mall route' into Holyrood Park, 39 11m columns were erected, fitted with two 'Holyrood' lanterns; one at 6m over the pavement; another at 8.5m over the roadway. The wide pavement line is illuminated with 70W metal-halide lamps.
