Brent Cross has a location problem

  • Comment

In David Taylor's item on John Prescott's decision to refuse planning permission for the proposed extension to Brent Cross Shopping Centre ('Prescott axes bdp's £80m Brent Cross retail scheme', aj 13.4.00), one crucial error was made which misrepresents completely the involvement of Brent council.

It was in fact Barnet council which had 'resolved to grant planning consent for the southern extension proposals' as the centre is within the London Borough of Barnet, albeit close to the boundary with the borough of Brent.

You are certainly not the first to assume that Brent Cross is within Brent. In this instance, however, I would be grateful if you could publish this letter as a correction, not least because Brent participated in a consortium of boroughs which, together with the London Planning Advisory Committee, successfully put forward a case at the public inquiry to oppose the scheme.
