Boris chases Harry Potterland for London

Hopes a Harry Potter theme park could be built in the UK have been ignited after London Mayor Boris Johnson wrote to the film studios which is developing a similar site in America

In his letter, the Mayor urged Warner Brothers and Universal Studios, which will open £270 million Wizarding World theme park ‘extension’ in Florida next week, to develop one in London.

And Johnson has called for businesses who would be interested in building a Hogwarts-based theme park in the capital to come forward.

The Greater London Authority is said to be ‘highly receptive’ to any possible bids, but the Mayor has backed away from committing any funds to a British Wizarding World.

A spokesman said: ‘If they were to put forward plans, they could conclude that the Mayor would be quite passionately behind them, as long as they were professional and true to the spirit of Harry Potter’.

The letter and appeal comes after earlier negotiations between City Hall and Warner Bros on a plan to build a Harry Potter theme park in Hertfordshire failed to reach an agreement. Florida offered tax incentives, development grants and new transport infrastructure to secure the new park for Orlando.

Look out for the OJEU soon….
