More news about the British Pavilion at the Venice (architectural) Biennale in 2000 - it is to be designed by Will Alsop. He was among a large advisory group of the great and good which gathered at the Royal Academy last week to hear of its plans, being drawn up with the British Council and consultant Wordsearch. Richard MacCormac, head of the ra's architecture committee, might have been expected to take on the design job himself - he has, after all, designed one of the Jubilee Line stations which will form the core of the show. But Alsop it is. Happily the latter's decision to withdraw his North Greenwich station from consideration for this year's Stirling Prize has itself been withdrawn, and it was inspected along with other candidates by the Stirling judges last week. Astragal's usual rectitude prevents me from saying who the winner is . . .
