The Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena is seeking an architect to revamp its front-of-house facilities

The two-year framework agreement for improvements to ‘public areas’ is divided into two phases, the latter focusing on detailed design.

The 12,700-seater venue opened in 1991 as the UK’s largest indoor arena and was the venue for television hit Gladiators and the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest.

The deadline for receipt of tenders or requests to participate is 12pm on 29 June.

Short description of the contract or purchase(s)

Following on from the highly successful refurbishment of the LG Arena at the NEC site, it has been recognised that an opportunity exists to upgrade the public areas at the National Indoor Arena – improving both the customer experience and the opportunity to earn additional revenues.
This tender is for the selection of Architectural Services for the potential works.
The project will encompass two phases.
Phase 1 - Initial feasibility study to develop the concept design and potential additional revenue streams. A design team consisting of QS, Structural consultant, M+E consultant, Catering consultant and Project Manager will be appointed to work alongside the chosen Architect.
Phase 2 - The development of the concept design through to detailed design. Depending on the chosen contract route for the construction contractor the Architect’s contract may include novation to the construction contractor. Appointment may be made on a RIBA stage by stage basis.
The second phase is dependent on the successful completion of the feasibility stage, the approval of the business case generated and consequently funds being forthcoming.
