Benoy has won a competition to design a 100,000m2 retail complex on a brownfield site on the edge of Lisbon, beating three other uk practices to the £50 million job. Broadway Malyan, Chapman Taylor Partners and s&p were the runners up.The practice, which designed the giant Bluewater shopping centre in Kent, will build a designer label retail complex on the site of a disused Pirelli tyre factory near the centre of the Portuguese capital. The complex will also feature 50,000m2 of restaurant, cinema and hotel space and will be designed as a cluster of pavilions around a landscaped area. See Benoy's plans for Battersea Power Station, page 14.
