BDP has been shortlisted to design a major extension to Hvidovre Hospital in Copenhagen.
The Manchester-based practice is among seven finalists for the project to expand the facility by more than 30,000 sq m.
BDP is up against HOK; CF Møller; Christensen and Co; Ramboll /White Arkitekter; Aarhus/Schmidt Hammer Lassen; and Niras/Ratio/Karlsson.
It continues a rich vein of form for BDP in Denmark.
The practice this year won a competition to masterplan a new hospital and psychiatry unit at Bispebjerg in Copenhagen (pictured).
It has also been shortlisted to design an extension to the University Hospital in Køge.
The new building at Hvidovre Hospital will include an emergency department, a cardiology section and a children’s section.
A winner will be announced in 2013 and the new hospital is scheduled to open in 2020.
Now it will be interesting to see how creativity can flourish.
The vision is that patients and their families will find a bright and functional hospital, where the framework is optimal for a good treatment.’
BDP head of healthcare Andrew Smith told AJ in September that the practice hoped to win more work as Denmark invested in healthcare construction.
‘Most countries develop their hospital infrastructure in waves, and Denmark is doing that at the moment,’ he said.
‘We are building up relationships with a number of partners in Denmark and would like to continue to work there.
