BDP designs housing-led masterplan for Russian metropolis

BDP has released images of its residential masterplan study for Samara, Russia’s sixth largest city

The practice has worked alongside WSP Highways and Davis Langdon, effectively reforming the masterplanning team behind the 2009 Stirling Prize-shortlisted Liverpool One masterplan.

The proposals for the 120,000m² former industrial site includes a series of landscaped courtyards looking into the central park surrounded by ‘high denisty’ residential blocks - up to 500 apartments per 10,000m².

The scheme features 5,000 flats along with retail and leisure, office buildings, a hotel and central administration building while retaining 40,000m² of open green space.

Two new public spaces are outlined in the plans - a new arrival point from the proposed metro connection and a link from the new bus interchange to retail and public buildings.
