Nicholas Grimshaw and Partners and Benoy have revealed these new images of their designs for Battersea Power Station after Wandsworth council gave them the go-ahead last week. Work on the £500 million scheme for Parkview International will begin next year, and involves the creation of a 'piece of city' with the reworked station at its heart. The 135,000m 2building, which has a footprint the size of Trafalgar Square, will include a custom-designed theatre for Cirque de Soleil (above right), retail, bars, cafes and cinemas. Arup Associates is designing offices, showcase pavilions and a hotel outside, while Benson and Forsyth is working on a residential scheme. Planning approval is subject to an extensive legal agreement binding the developer to restore the Grade II-listed structure and build a new railway station before the development is occupied by the public.
