Banks letter encourages Tinside Pool campaigners

  • Comment

Culture minister Tony Banks has written a 'very sympathetic letter of support' to Baroness Fookes of Plymouth, who is fighting to save the city's Art Deco Tinside Pool.

Banks, whose department is considering listing the pool, has suggested that the Tinside Action Group (tag) approach the Sports Council and Heritage Lottery Fund for funding to repair it, albeit with the warning that 'only one in every ten applicants for funding for capital projects has been successful'. The tag is trying to turn the 63-year-old pool on the Hoe into a charitable trust based on the Hampton Court Lido model in London.
